We're thrilled to kick off our exciting new series, Wine of the Month, where we bring you the best of our cellar each month. This time around, we're putting the spotlight on our Tempranillo Hilltops 2022, a true gem that recently bagged both a trophy and gold medal at the Royal Queensland Show.
What Makes Our Tempranillo Special?
Hailing from the Hilltops region near Young, NSW, our Tempranillo ripens early and thrives in the region's cool climate. Situated at an elevation of 450m above sea level, this delightful vineyard enjoys a unique microclimate that brings out the best in our grapes. The cool nights work their magic, allowing our wine to develop silky tannins and a touch of elegance, while the warm days encourage sugar ripening and colour development, resulting in a perfectly balanced and flavourful wine.
With great care and attention, our hillside vineyards with red soil nurture the Tempranillo grapes, infusing them with intense black cherry flavours that define the character of this variety. Each sip reveals a lush and savoury palate, reflecting the essence of the Hilltops terroir. In this perfect setting, Tempranillo shines, showcasing a fine and subtle flavour profile, highlighted by notes of red and black fruits, complemented by gentle hints of spice and herbs. The wine's meager acid backbone lends graceful balance, creating an overall finesse that's simply delightful.
The remarkable combination of the altitude and the warmer days in the Hilltops region creates a similar set up to its ancestral home in Spain's Ribera del Duero.
